network admin by trade, security practitioner in progress

For starters, I am so glad you want to learn more about me! I started out doing suport tickets through live customer interactions and just a few years (and a couple hundred support tickets later), I’m the one solo-securing an entire learning institution, investigating potential phishing reports, and writing the detailed information for tickets escalated to higher positions within my organization’s IT network and security teams. The one thing that has not changed since day one has to be my relentless desire to learn and teach others.

Right now I’m doing working toward a SOC analyst seat. Aside from utilizing my skills and knowledge in cybersecurity frameworks and best practices, it’s the most direct line from the log analysis and phishing triage I already do into a full-time security role. Nonetheless, I cant help but admit that what actually keeps me up at night is lower in the stack: reverse engineering, exploit development, pulling hardware apart just to see how it thinks, and basically getting as close to the 1s and 0s that run our entire world. Most of that shows up in the homelab and hardware projects elsewhere on this site more than it does on paper.

With that in mind, I hope you enjoy your time learning about me, the things I do, and subjects I will never learn enough about.

Experience#

The full role-by-role history is in my resume. Still, here’s what’s most relevant to security work.

Network Manager — Polk County Public Schools · Aug 2023 – Present
Solo-manage and secure roughly 500 endpoints and 50 network devices at 99.9% uptime, and act as sole technical approver for campus technology purchases. First-line responder for staff-reported phishing and malware events. 100+ emails reviewed, including a suspicious USB hardware escalated directly to district IT security. Directed a $54,000, multi-building technology modernization efforts end to end. Took pleasure in out-of-scope victories such as using scripting to automate a manual absence-reporting workflow to standardizing how non-standard IoT devices get onboarded onto NAC. Named Campus Employee of the Year (2024–2025) out of roughly 30 non-teaching staff.

Mac+ AppleCare Technical Support Advisor — KellyConnect · May 2022 – Dec 2022
Promoted through three support tiers: iOS, then Media Services + iOS, then full Mac+ Apple ecosystem support all in five months (also the fastest pace in my training cohort). Closed 1,000+ iOS/macOS cases in the top 1% of AppleCare advisors company-wide while cutting average resolution time by 25%, and mentored 5+ new hires along the way.

Lead Instructor — Bricks 4 Kidz · Jan 2023 – Aug 2023
Taught robotics/STEM workshops to 100+ students. Even though this is not directly security-relevant, I definitely learned invaluable skills. Other than enjoying my time making little ones have a wonderful experience learning about analog robotics, it was when I first had to take something technical and complicated and make it click for someone with zero context — a skill that turns out to matter just as much in a SOC handoff as it does in a classroom.

Projects & Practice#

  • Phishing/Malware URL Classifier (B.S. Capstone) — Django app on Azure using a scikit-learn random forest model to classify URLs as phishing, malware-hosting, or benign at 90%+ accuracy.
  • Secure K-12 Network Design (M.S. Capstone) — Full network topology and device architecture for a school environment, with a formal risk assessment and Suricata IDS/IPS integration on OPNsense.
  • Self-Hosted Network Infrastructure — Containerized home server (2+ years uptime) which begun as a curiosity-related project and became something real to break and rebuild. Includes a DNS-level ad/tracker blocker, a coding server, and media sync capabilities.
  • TryHackMe — Guru rank, 118+ hands-on labs across offensive and defensive security.
  • HackTheBox — Completed the Bug Bounty Hunter path: web application vulnerability discovery and exploitation methodology.
